Welcome to Okay, Obsessed <3

I, Liza Sokol, am starting a newsletter to fill with all sorts of fun and silly things, because my heart yearns for it, and I realized I'm allowed to write about whatever I want, and I'm not holding a gun to anyone's head, forcing them to listen to my thoughts on KPop Demon Hunters (a perfect movie.)

So I'm sure this will morph and take different shapes as I figure out what I want to yap about and at what cadence, but what's one more subscription in your inbox? Especially when it's my incredible advice and recommendations, for free.

To start, some things I've been into recently.

Amaarae's Black Star is pop perfection from top to bottom, but S.M.O. is a real highlight. The album's PinkPantheress and Bree Runway features are most pleasing to me and really great for stomping around Brooklyn. My body aches for a Charli XCX collab.

I love Ayat so, so much. While being one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever seen, the food is always incredible. Highly recommend the Mezze Filistini for a little bit of everything, especially paired with the warm, fresh bread, but you can't go wrong. Well, you can, if you don't end your meal with the kanafeh. A truly perfect "not too sweet" dessert.

Available at my local dispensary (love you, Misha's!), Sasha Colby's Flamer collab is everything I want in a pre-roll: a fun, fruity vibe, a nice smoke, and a gorgeous woman. I think it might be local to New York? Come hang with me and we can get a pack and walk down the street for the viral-but-actually-worth-it Nieves Cortes (handspun Mexican ice cream).

I've been a real, how you say, cinephile, lately, after blowing through some record-breaking television-watching stats, and I can't stop thinking about Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. A perfect, weird little angsty movie.

So that's the first edition of Okay, Obsessed. I hope you found something new to listen to, or watch, or eat, or you're just like, wow, Liza has fun taste and people kept saying she should write a newsletter and now she finally is, how fun is that.
